What to Watch For
Iowa will be starting its sixth different offensive line group of the season. When you are changing out starters like this, it is hard for the guys to get chemistry together. This unit needs to know how to play together this week more than ever, when they face the nations most fierce defense. Michigan is big, strong and quick upfront and along with the linebackers, will be blitzing this new Iowa line all day. Just like in the wild when an animal sees a weakness in its prey, Michigan will attack the weakness. The Hawkeyes give up a lot of sacks and that could spell trouble for senior quarterback CJ Beathard. DE’s Chris Wormley, Rashan Gary and Taco Charlton will use their speed and strength to hit Beathard and hit him hard. This Michigan defensive unit has knocked out eight quarterbacks from the game this year. It will be up to the Iowa O-line to protect their signal caller from being the ninth.
On the flip side of the ball, I love the Michigan offensive line. I was worried when Grant Newsome went down with a season ending injury, that this unit would take a step back. I am glad to be wrong about this, as the O-line continues to impress. They are great at pass protection and have opened up holes for the running backs to explode through every game. On a side note, Newsome was released from the hospital this week and doing well in his quest for rehabilitation.
Jabrill Peppers quest to win the Heisman Trophy continues and I would love to see some more touchdowns added to his resume. He is quite a bit behind Louisville QB Lamar Jackson in those numbers but Peppers can line up in a dozen different positions and fill the stat sheet. No other player in the country can fill so many different holes. He has scored on a punt return, a defensive touchdown, and offensive scores. He is a great open field tackler, can sack the QB, and change a coaches play calling depending on where he lines up on the field. If the committee who selects the winner truly wants the best college football player in America, they will select LB, CB, S, RB, WR, QB, KR, and PR Jabrill Peppers!
With a victory today Michigan will be 10-0 for the first time since 2006! The Harbaugh effect has brought a completely different mentality to Michigan and all of the players, coaches and fans have bought in. We all believe Michigan can win the Big Ten and go on in the College Football Playoffs and compete for a national championship this year. Harbaugh is seeking perfection and this win gets them one step closer. Michigan has struggled at Iowa the last few times they played there. This year will be a different story because this team is focused on one game at a time, no trap games for the Wolverines. Tonight they will be playing in primetime on national television, so when the night is over, everyone will see how dangerous the Michigan Wolverines will be the remainder of the season.
