Breaking down Michigan’s Blowout Win Over UCF

It might not have looked as impressive as a week one, but the Wolverines handled Central Florida, 51-14.

I’ve honestly never seen so much nitpicking after a blowout victory. Michigan smacked UCF on the scoreboard and moved up to fourth in the AP Top 25. Yet somehow, there is a bunch to critique. Sure, the Wolverines gave up a TON of yards on the ground, but maaaaan! Props to UCF for running all over the field against a talented Michigan defense. Props to UCF for holding Michigan’s running backs to 119 on the ground. But, Props to MICHIGAN for finding a way to still win by 37 points.

To some capacity, Michigan was tested last weekend. In both the roundtable preview and last week’s podcast, I mentioned this would be good for the Wolverines. Jim Harbaugh said it best on Monday:

“I’m very excited as a coach that when you win a game 51-14, you still have things to go in and coach and you feel like you can improve your play on. There’s probably no better feeling as a coach than to start the week that way.”

I thought the Wolverines looked great on Saturday. Yes, they have much to improve on—but isn’t that what playing cupcakes is all about?
