Gameballs: Michigan vs. Northwestern

Posted on Posted in Michigan Football

The Michigan Wolverines extended their win streak to five games on Saturday with a 38-0 win over #13 Northwestern. In a game that most thought would be a hard fought battle, the Wolverines dominated in every sense of the word. Jehu Chesson got the game started when he returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, and the Wolverines never looked back. Michigan has now recorded three straight shutout victories for the first time since 1980. This week was another prime example of what a TEAM win is. Let’s see who deserves this weeks gameball.

Gameball: Jim Harbaugh, Head Coach

I could easily give this weeks gameball(s) to an offensive, defensive, or even a special teams player, like in past weeks. This week I want to take things a different direction. I am awarding head coach Jim Harbaugh the gameball against Northwestern. Not only did coach Harbaugh prepare his staff and his players for the ranked showdown this weekend, he has prepared them all year. It is very evident that Michigan is the most prepared team on the field each week. As I was watching the game this weekend, I couldn’t help but notice the Big House crowd of 110,452 bringing the noise all afternoon. There was a voice in my head that just kept saying “this is Michigan”. There has been flashes this year where I have thought “Michigan football is back”, but for the first time in years I actually knew it.

Last weekend I went to the grocery store after Michigan’s 28-0 win over Maryland, and I was stopped three separate times by complete strangers. People who just wanted to talk Michigan football and the excitement they had, all because I was wearing my #1 maize and blue jersey. That took me back to growing up in the ’90s when that’s what people did on Saturday afternoons; talked about Michigan’s impressive victories. In less than a year of being in Ann Arbor, coach Harbaugh has changed the entire culture. He has made Michigan relevant again. He’s given us something to be excited about again, something worth rooting for! The moral of the story is grocery stores around the country are raving about Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, the nation is raving about Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines!

Michigan will look to improve to 6-1 when they welcome rival Michigan State to Ann Arbor next weekend. There’s no doubt in my mind that coach Harbaugh will have these boys prepared better than they have been all year. I look forward to a great game by big blue! Go Blue!

I am entering season 2 with TBHR, and will be writing the "Harbaugh's Heroes" segment each week, as well as podcasting and a few other articles from time to time. I look forward to this season!
