The Michigan Wolverines opened up Big Ten play on Saturday with a 28-0 win over the Maryland Terrapins. Although the scoreboard shows a 28-point win, the game was much closer for a majority of the afternoon. Both teams failed to find the end zone in the first half, but thanks to a pair of Kenny Allen field goals, Michigan took a 6-0 lead into the locker room. The Wolverine’s defense remained tenacious into the second half, and their offense broke the scoring drought when Jake Rudock found Drake Johnson for a 31-yard passing touchdown. Just a few minutes later, senior receiver, Jehu Chesson, broke off a 66-yard rushing touchdown on an end around play. Drake Johnson capped off the afternoon with a 1-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter. Michigan earned their fourth win of the 2015 season, and a few Wolverines performed above the rest. Let’s check out this weeks gameball recipients.
Gameball: Desmond Morgan, Linebacker
Morgan lead the way for the Wolverines on the defensive side of the ball with 9 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and added an interception to his tally. The 5th year senior from Holland (MI) has been a true leader this season for Big Blue. After missing practically the entire 2014 season with a hand injury, Morgan looks poised to continue to make a huge impact this fall. Through five games Morgan is second on the team just behind Joe Bolden for tackles, totaling 30 thus far. Each week Morgan brings more and more energy, and is a center piece of this nationally ranked defense.
Gameball: Michigan Secondary
Jabrill Peppers, Jourdan Lewis, Jeremy Clark, and Delano Hill have been superb for Michigan thus far. Without starting cornerback, Channing Stribling, the Wolverine secondary started out giving up slant play after slant play on Saturday. After a few adjustments, and a few turnovers to get their confidence going, they began to lock down and show just how good they are. As long as they are playing this well, the Wolverines defense will continue to be great!
