John U. Bacon: Harbaugh’s Salary Put At Roughly $5 million/year, Plus Incentives

Posted on Posted in Michigan Football

As it turns out, Jim Harbaugh won’t be getting as much money to coach Michigan as initially reported a few weeks ago. According to John Bacon, who says this information came from interim AD Jim Hackett himself, Jim Harbaugh’s salary will be roughly $5 million per year, plus incentives.

The first contract numbers being reported were around $8 million per year, which would have made Harbaugh the highest paid coach in the college game, and one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL.

Now maybe “Harbaugh is doing it for the money” can be laid to rest.

Harbaugh told Hackett that he did NOT want to be the highest paid coach in college football. Or even the Big Ten. Instead, he is more concerned with the salaries of his assistants.
