As reported earlier today by Steve Lorenz of 247sports.com, the Michigan Wolverines will host 2016 5-star Power Forward T.J. Leaf today (Monday, May 19th.) Many have him as Michigan’s top choices going into the 2016 recruiting cycle, so today, it is important that they impress.
Michigan has seen a recent surge in Forwards coming to Ann Arbor, headlined by Mitch McGary and Zak Irvin, so Leaf would be a piece that the Wolverines could use nicely in their offense.
Leaf is 6-9, 205 pounds out of El Cajon, California. He has progressed nicely with his perimeter skills, and he is a brilliant shooter. There isn’t a shot that he can’t hit, which is huge considering a player of his height and weight should be a predominant post-player. His skill-set makes it tough to defend him, and it makes it even harder to game-plan around him.
It is unclear, as of today, who will be his teammates; one would believe that Caris LeVert and Zak Irvin would be gone by the time he is on campus, but you never know. If he can be “wooed” by the Michigan coaching staff, Jon Beilien may have another successful big-man to add to the résumé.
Leaf has drawn comparison to Chandler Parsons of the Houston Rockets, and holds scholarship offers from 12 schools to this point. The most notable being Gonzaga, Arizona State, UCLA, Indiana and Arizona. Michigan could be added to that list very soon.
