Quick hits with Cole Chewins

I spoke with 2015 TE Cole Chewins today about his recruitment process. Chewins, out of Clarkston Michigan, received his first offer today from Central Michigan. Though Chewins’ recruiting process is in the beginning stages, he has gotten some looks from schools like Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Western Michigan and even Michigan.

The highlights of our discussion can be found after the jump.

  • On his interest in Michigan: Chewins told me he is very interested in Michigan. He told me that he went to a camp during the summer and it went really well. He also visited campus during a spring practice and attended a game against Minnesota last season. He tells me that he hasn’t heard from Michigan lately.
  • On what the coaches have been telling him: He told me that the Michigan coaches like his frame and would like him to add more weight. He has put on 20 lbs since seeing Michigan last.
  • He mentioned the fact that he really wants to play Big Ten football. I believe any Big Ten school that jumps in early and starts recruiting him hard will get a good chance at landing Chewins. If Michigan decides to not offer and Michigan State does, it’ll be hard to see Chewins not go green. It’s a long process, so we will see what happens.
  • As far as timelines or top schools, Chewins recruitment is in the early stages so he is starting to feel things out and weigh his options.
