Saturdays call to arms

It’s safe to say that this season has not been fun for the Michigan Wolverines. Working with a lackluster 7-4 record and falling astronomically short of expectations set before the season started, there isn’t much left to play for. However, depending on how the last game of the regular season is played, even the worst of seasons could be rectified with a victory.

Saturday marks the 109th meeting between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines. We know the storyline, the undefeated Buckeyes are looking for style points and a second straight victory over Michigan. Whereas the Wolverines are barely treading water looking for something to believe in.

Recipe for disaster, right? Probably. But I’m keeping the faith, at least for the time being.

I will be making my trip to Ann Arbor Saturday to see the team play. Not only is this my last Michigan game as a student, but it is also my first time I get to experience the rivalry live. Sure, Michigan might get destroyed on their home turf, but at least I’ll make it memorable for other reasons.

Of all the times I’ve wanted to give up on this team, I’ve come right back every Saturday. It’s been difficult, trying, taxing and any other possible adjective I could use to describe this season. But, Michigan will have my attention for at least one more Saturday. If you have one more weekend left in you, this is the weekend to invest some sort of emotion.

To be frank, the fact that many are so willing to roll over and take an OSU victory before the game has even been played is alarming. This is football, there are no absolutes. Does Michigan have a chance? Maybe. Will it take a miracle to win? Probably. But I’d take that small chance.

Yes, Ohio State has whooped Michigan up and down the field for more than a decade. I don’t have an argument for that. Call it blind passion for my team.

This is my call to arms for all Michigan fans.

For one more weekend, show your pride for Michigan. I know it’s been hard and it hasn’t been fun, but the team needs the fans for one more weekend. I know you’re thinking, “But, Josh. If Michigan hasn’t given me the effort, why should I?” Trust me, I know your pain. I understand it. But, it’s rivalry week! Michigan-Ohio State, it doesn’t get any better than this.

In short, if you plan on going to Ann Arbor, do so. Be loud, be proud and be respectful.

This is our house, we must protect it.
