For our first inaugural “Twitter Fan of the Week” segment. We choose weekly a certain fan that stands out to us through Twitter.
The first person that comes to mind is Shane. Shane displays constant love for the University of Michigan. Basketball, football, no matter the sport, his heart bleeds blue. We have always enjoyed our conversations with Shane, and share the same expectations for future teams.
Shane took some time out of his day to answer a few questions for us, which can be viewed below.
Q: Let’s talk about the obvious. Why did you become a fan
of Michigan? What about the name “The University of Michigan” gives you so much pride in being a fan?
A: I remember early on watching Michigan football and Bo Schembechler and the winning tradition that U of M carries. It’s been with me ever since. The University of Michigan to me means “Excellence” “Tradition” and as the fight song says “The Leaders and Best”. When any Michigan team takes to their “arena” I feel as if they will conquer because they represent and stand for so much!
Q: You are offered a scholarship to play football at the University, what position would you play and why?
A: I feel that I could have played 2-way if allowed, to help my team win games. I would have been a DE or LB cause I had this knack of causing havoc in the opponents backfield. I would also have been a TE due to running great patterns and having great hands!
Q: Who is your favorite player to ever don the winged helmet?
A: LOL well this is a more than one person answer here. I start with Rick Leach for his leadership and of course being a lefty like I am (and good luck to future U of M QB Shane Morris!) Then Jim Harbaugh for his gritty play all the way into the NFL and now possibly a Super Bowl Head Coach. Anthony Carter seemed like he could catch anything and helped the Michigan Panthers win a USFL title. Tom Harmon for what he stood for and being a Heisman Trophy Winner and of course Charles Woodson for helping the Maize and Blue capture a national championship.
Q: Do you go to games at the Big House Often? What is your favorite Big House memory, or Michigan memory in general?
A: Sadly Ive never been to the Big House to watch a game but plan on going this upcoming season. Closest atmosphere Ive been has been at MIS twice with 250K in attendance. I know when I go to U of M stadium for the first time it will be unlike any other! My favorite Michigan memory is of course watching the Maize and Blue win the title in ’97 and how magical the journey seemed to be!
Q: What are your expectations of the team with Coach Hoke leading them?
A: To continue getting better and restore the tradition and expectations that Michigan sports carries with it. I feel even with a very tough opening day game vs. the defending champions Alabama. I say undefeated, B1G Ten Champs and a shot at a BCS Title isn’t out of the realm of expectation.
Q: In my opinion, your Tweets prove to me that you’re a loyal fan. To those reading who may not follow you. Now is your opportunity to convince them to follow you!
A: I’m just me. I do not sugar coat things. I’m straight forward, honest and caring and do value the opinions of others on any topic discussed. I love Motown sports. Michigan sports, LOL I bleed Blue and love classic rock, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and jazz. I watch movies; some but not often. You talk sports, I talk sports. I live it and I breathe it. I tell you what I know and we go from there.
Q: Anything else you want to add?
A: I just want to express my gratitude to you for letting me be a part of this and sharing this with others. Some just look at me as a name and a box on a screen. I’m thankful to have found so many friends here on Twitter and share the same views, and at times to differ as well. I’m amazed at the many sports fans that like the same teams as I do and we can tweet away at what should be done and who should do what, etc. Hopefully this has been informative and entertaining to all that followed. Take care and peace out!
